New Year...New Laws!

As we discussed in June last year, the new pet insurance regulations are upon us. After much consideration we have come up with a policy that we think is as fair as possible given the constraints of the new regulations. This does mean that for most insurance companies, we will now have to charge a fee to complete insurance forms under certain circumstances. You can read our full policy statement on this matter here. It is with great regret that we have introduced this change.

The Year Ahead at Vetrica

We have many new innovations planned for the year ahead at Vetrica. We aren't yet in a position to reveal any details, but we do plan to expand our ever popular range of preventative health care plans, and make the provision of credit for some of our less well off customers easier to achieve. Did you know that Vetrica is the only practice in Dunfermline that doesn't receive payments from public charity for the treatment of the animals of the less well off? We try not to turn away the genuinely needy, but there will always be a limit to what we can do under these circumstances.

We can announce that each month we will have a special offer just for readers of this newsletter! See the bottom of this page for this month's offer.

This Month's Interesting Case

As is often the case in veterinary practice, December was rather quieter than the rest of the year. So I thought I'd take this opportunity to give updates on some of the cases we reported in 2004.

In April, we reported on Tommy, a cat that was hit by a car, but not been found for a week. Tommy has made as full a recovery as is possible. He's still as mischievous as ever, spending most of his time outdoors. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have learned his lesson about the roads, the middle of which he is frequently to be found resting.

July's case was Buddy, a cat that had broken his tibia. We saw Buddy for a routine follow-up check in November. He's using his leg well, and although he was still limping a little, it doesn't appear to be slowing him down at all, and I expect his slight limp to continue to improve.

A whippet called Candy was the subject in August. Unfortunately we have not seen Candy since she had her sutures removed, at which time she was coming along very well. When this is the case, it usually eventually turns out that "No news is good news". I plan to contact Candy's owners later this month to check on her.

Last month we talked about Molly, a dog with a fractured pelvis. It's still relatively early days yet, but Molly is doing extremely well at home. She can walk fairly normally, although she does still tend to do the splits on slippery surfaces.
